Nursing and Associate Scholarships

The Ascension St. Vincent Foundation awards scholarships annually to deserving Ascension St. Vincent associates pursuing degrees that will help them further their nursing careers. Scholarships are made possible by the generous contributions of individuals, corporations, and foundations in recognition of the outstanding nursing care provided to Ascension St. Vincent patients and their families.

Last year, more than $600,000 supported the ongoing education of our nurses and associates, including special scholarships awarded annually, thanks to generous donations from our donors.

Scholarship details by region

Scholarships are awarded annually to eligible nurses and associates throughout the state. Please select a region below to learn more about scholarships available, eligibility requirements and application details.
  • Central Region

    Nursing Scholarship Eligibility
    Nursing Scholarships awarded by the Ascension St. Vincent Foundation in Indianapolis are available to full-time and part-time associates who have completed at least one year of consecutive employment at an eligible Ascension St. Vincent Hospital (eligible locations listed below) and are applying for or currently pursuing an associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree in nursing at an accredited school.

    Previous scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for a one-time renewal scholarship or may also re-apply if pursuing a new degree.

    Applications must be completed in full, including two peer and one director/manager recommendations. Please note: these must be three (3) different individuals.

  • North Region

    The Ascension St. Vincent Foundation - North Region awards scholarships annually for the summer/fall semester.

    Scholarship Eligibility
    Scholarships and education funds are available to Ascension St. Vincent North Region associates in need of financial assistance to continue their education in a health-related career. Previous scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for a one-time renewal scholarship. Previous recipients may also re-apply if pursuing a new degree.

    The application must be completed in full, including one director/manager and one peer recommendation to be uploaded when completing the online application. The applicant must be an associate of Ascension St. Vincent who has completed at least one year of consecutive employment at an Ascension St. Vincent North Region Hospital. (Exception - Reger Scholarship).

    The amount awarded and the available scholarships change each year based on available funds.

    Scholarships are made possible by the generous contributions of donors to the Foundation Scholarship/Education funds.

    The scholarship application cycle is February 1 through April 1 at midnight. Applications will not be accepted unless all sections have been completed and the application has been submitted. Late applications will not be accepted.

  • South Region

    The Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Volunteer Auxiliary, in cooperation with the Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Foundation, presents annual achievement scholarship awards to individuals interested in furthering their careers. Recipients are selected based on a variety of criteria based on the individual scholarship requirements.

    Scholarship applications are due annually by March 1st and winners are notified by May 1st. Winners and their families are invited to an Auxiliary Luncheon & Meeting for recognition.

    Scholarships Available
    Pre-Licensure Nursing Scholarships
    Ascension St. Vincent Evansville Pre-Licensure Nursing Scholarships promote the development of future nurses by providing funds to support successful completion of a variety of nursing degrees. We aspire to be regionally and nationally recognized for our evidence-based nursing practice, nurse work environment and our commitment to community.

    A fluctuating amount of at least $5,000 is granted to scholarship recipients to assist with the successful completion of their nursing curriculum, NCLEX review and exam reimbursement, a full-time nursing position in a direct patient care area at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, and individualized nursing orientation, unit orientation, as well as educational opportunities to support specialty certifications and continuing education.

    Pre-licensure nursing scholarship candidates must be students enrolled in a college of nursing, in good standing and entering their final pre-licensure year of nursing education. Eligible recipients may be pursuing a 2 year or 4 year college degree in nursing as an undergraduate student. Preferred candidates exhibit a financial need for scholarship funding. Additionally, applicants must:

    • Be a U.S. citizen and a permanent U.S. resident
    • Demonstrate a passion and desire to care for others
    • Exemplify Ascension St. Vincent’s Mission, Vision and Values

    High School Scholarships
    Ascension St. Vincent Evansville High School Scholarship Programs provide funds to support successful completion of a degree program following high school graduation. A fluctuating amount is granted to scholarship recipients to assist with successful completion of their chosen curriculum.

    Employed Associate Scholarships
    This scholarship fund began with a contribution in 2000 in honor of Nelda J. Henze. Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, Warrick, and Orthopedic Hospital are using this generous scholarship fund to support the continuing education of LPNs, CMAs, and RNs. Eligibility requirements include:

    • Work as an Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, Orthopedic, or Warrick associate for a full 12 months in a 0.5 or higher FTE. If in a PRN position, must work at the commitment level of 0.5 or higher.
    • Must sign a Statement of Understanding outlining responsibilities upon acceptance.
    • Minimum of a two-year commitment to work at Ascension St. Vincent Evansville, Warrick, or Orthopedic Hospital in the acute care hospital setting.
    • Candidate must have no disciplinary action in the past 12 months of employment.
