Christmas in July at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital

Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital celebrated Christmas this July, when community members came together to donate and wrap gifts.

The St. Vincent Young Professionals Board (YPB) is an organization of rising leaders in the Indianapolis community. It exists to support philanthropic efforts and community awareness of the St. Vincent Foundation.

This year, the YPB worked with Dr. Hossain Marandi, President of Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, to create Christmas in July. This event is the beginning of the ‘Helping Hands’ series, a year-long initiative to create philanthropic activities for individuals of all ages. The goal for this series is to spread community awareness by creating volunteer opportunities that are suitable for children and adults equally. Through this, children will have the opportunity to experience humanitarian work at a young age.

On July 24th, YPB members and local families gathered at the St. Vincent House to wrap gifts that had been donated by community members and St. Vincent associates. Parents and children wrapped gifts, made cards, and put together craft kits for children at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital. The craft was an umbrella wreath, consisting of a Styrofoam ring and small drink umbrellas.

The following day, everything was brought to the 3rd party play room at Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital. Patients from every floor gathered as Santa and Mrs. Claus passed out gifts. There were crafts, gifts, and party favors – it was the perfect blend of summer and winter!

The play room was perhaps the busiest it has ever been. Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers were thrilled to see so many of their patients enjoying themselves at the event.

The St. Vincent Young Professional Board is looking forward to more events like this in the future. To learn more visit https://www.touchdownforkids.org/ or follow them on Facebook, Twitter (@StVincentYPB), and Instagram (@stvincentfoundationypb).
